Quarantine & Other
Steritech’s irradiation, EtO and Heat processes help businesses and individuals meet quarantine standards for imported and exported goods. These treatments eliminate microbiological contamination of traded goods and prevent the introduction of exotic pests and diseases into Australia.
Steritech helps a variety of industries make their products safer, manage pests and diseases, and meet regulatory requirements. We treat over 100 different types of product every year and are an Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) approved treatment provider.
Steritech’s facilities are versatile and with the three different treatment options we have a one-stop-shop service that can treat most products. For example, outside of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, animal products, packaging and food, Steritech also treats products such as archives, fish bait, aboriginal art, furniture with borer infestation and beehives.
Steritech irradiates beehives in order to eliminate the American Foulbrood and European Foulbrood diseases. Until Steritech offered this service any hive affected by these diseases had to be destroyed at a significant cost to the beekeeper. Now, there is a simple and cost effective method for eliminating the disease and even improve yield with the added benefit of being able to re-use the hive.
Another service Steritech can offer industry is cross-linking. This process, which is very common in the European and North American manufacturing sectors, involves irradiating materials, specifically polymers, used in the automotive, electro technic and irrigation industries. The irradiation process causes the molecular chains in the polymer to bond to one-another, which is called ‘cross-linking. This increases the strength of the material and also improves their insolubility and resistance to changes in temperature.
Our services have also been increasingly used for the elimination of contamination in archives, documents, artefacts and furniture. Fungal, bacterial and pest contaminations in products ranging from household and antique furniture to large volumes of water damaged archives have been sent to Steritech for Gamma Irradiation and Ethylene Oxide treatments. Our processes allow large volumes of pre-boxed documents to be treated with ease, eliminating the need for the time poor function of treating each individual document spearately. Our treatments are especially beneficial to schools, museums, councils, libraries, storage companies, art galleries, loss adjusters, insurance companies, companies with a need to store documents, antique dealers and anyone who has active borers in furniture. Basically, if you have a need to eliminate mould, bacteria or pests, contact Steritech first.
