The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) are the front line in protecting Australia’s environment from exotic pests and diseases.
Their stringent import conditions ensure that Australia remains free of numerous pests and diseases, which have had devastating effects upon the agricultural industries and environments of many other countries around the world.
Steritech helps play a significant part in this protection.
Steritech provides approved quarantine treatments for AQIS This means that AQIS will direct any goods to Steritech, which they consider a potential risk to Australia’s environment. The treatments provided by Steritech are Gamma Irradiation, Ethylene Oxide Gas Fumigation and Heat Treatment.
Pet products are among the many types of goods that are directed to Steritech, by AQIS. Pet products can come in the form of pig’s ears/dog chews, pet food, horse riding equipment, bloodworms, animal bedding and bird seed, to name but a few.
Pig’s ears require Gamma Irradiation due to the potential risk of bovine diseases that could contaminate the Australian agricultural industry. Gamma Irradiation eliminates this risk.
Certain pet foods require Gamma Irradiation to eliminate the risk of exotic insects, pests and diseases entering Australia.
Steritech works closely with AQIS to ensure all goods being treated at all plants comply with the strict quarantine requirements and regulations required by AQIS and Biosecurity Australia.
